Erin Creighton Represents Team Ireland at UCI Track World Championships
Congratulations to our Elite Athlete Erin Creighton, who proudly represented Team Ireland at the UCI Track World Championships in Santiago, Chile. Erin—who made her international debut in 2021 and stepped into the national team-pursuit squad this year—competed in both the Team Pursuit and the Madison. Her participation marked a continuation of strong form in both track and road disciplines as she returns to the world stage.

Callum crowned Autumn Open Champion
A dominant display from our Elite Athlete Callum Morgan, who powered to victory at the 9th Autumn Open International Cross Country Festival, held at the Sport Ireland Campus on Sunday, October 19th.
Callum claimed the Men’s Senior title in commanding fashion, breaking clear over the final 2,000m to cross the line in 24:42 — his first Autumn Open title. -

Queen's GAA Senior Football Management 2025
Queen’s University GAA are delighted to announce the appointment of Daniel McCartan and Feargal Logan as the new joint-managers of the senior football team. The new appointments are both former Sigerson Cup winners with Queen’s. Feargal led the 1990 team to victory and Daniel was the most recent victorious captain in 2007.
Daniel McCartan has enjoyed a distinguished playing career for Burren and Down, winning three county titles and he featured for his county in the 2010 All-Ireland Final. He played at full back in four consecutive Sigerson Cup finals and led Queens to Ryan Cup success in 2006-07.
Feargal Logan is a former Stewartstown and Tyrone midfielder who played in the 1995 All-Ireland Final. He and Brian Dooher managed the Red Hand County to win the Sam Maguire in 2021.
The coaching team will include another two former Queen’s Sigerson Cup players - Donal O’Hare (Burren) and Jack Dowling (St Brigids). The senior team begin their season with an encounter against old rivals UU at the Dub on Wednesday, 15 October. -

Rowing World Championships
Elite Athlete Nathan Timoney, competing with Ross Corrigan, placed 6th in the A Final of the Men’s Pair at the World Rowing Championships in Shanghai — an excellent result against world-class competition. EAP Konan Pazzaia also impressed, finishing 2nd in the C Final of the Men’s Single Sculls. Both athletes delivered strong performances and represented the programme with distinction on the international stage.

Erin and Aine part of Irish Team to Ride Rás na mBan
Congratulations to students Erin Creighton and Aine Doherty on their strong performances while competing for Team Ireland in the latest stage of the race, which finished in Freshford, Co. Kilkenny.
Erin finished an impressive 3rd place in a sprint from a reduced front group, narrowly missing out on the win. Her result also earned her the Best Young Rider jersey, a notable achievement in a competitive international field.
Aine, Ireland’s current national criterium champion, was active early in the race, launching a solo move after the first intermediate sprint. Although the break didn’t stick, her effort was part of a strong showing from the Irish team throughout the day.

Nathan Timoney and Konan Pazzaia selected for 2025 World Rowing Championships
Congratulations to students Nathan Timoney and Konan Pazzaia on their selection for the 2025 World Rowing Championships in Shanghai, China. Nathan will compete in the Men’s Pair, while Konan represents Ireland in the Men’s Single Scull. As part of a strategically selected Rowing Ireland team focused on developing future Olympic talent, both athletes will take to the world stage from September 21–28. Well done, Nathan and Konan!

Rachel McCann Selected for World Athletics Championships in Tokyo
A huge congratulations to our Elite Athlete, Rachel McCann, on her selection for Team Ireland at the upcoming World Athletics Championships in Tokyo. Rachel will compete in both the 4x400m relay and the 4x400m mixed relay, joining a record-breaking 28-person squad announced by Athletics Ireland. The championships run from September 13–21, and we’re proud to see Rachel take to the world stage representing Ireland. Best of luck, Rachel!

Silver medal at Senior National Championships
A huge congratulations to our EAP athlete Rachel McCann (North Down) on winning the silver medal in the 400m at the Irish National Senior Athletics Championships. Rachel repeated her impressive silver medal performance from last year, this time clocking a new outdoor personal best of 53.19 seconds in a competitive race won by Sophie Becker. An outstanding achievement – well done, Rachel!

Nine QUBRFC players named in Ulster Senior Squad for 2025/26
Queen’s University Belfast RFC is proud to celebrate the selection of nine players to the Ulster Rugby Senior Women’s Squad for the 2025/26 season. This is a significant achievement for the club and a reflection of the strength and depth of the women’s rugby programme at Queen’s.
The squad includes six current students: Ruby Starrett, Maebh Clenaghan, Emily Whittle, Lauren Darley, Ciara Fitzsimons, and Sarah Roberts. In addition, three QUBRFC graduates — Rachel McIlroy, Ellen Patterson, and Bronach Cassidy — have also earned their places in the squad.
This recognition is a testament to the hard work and dedication of the players, coaches, and the wider support team at QUBRFC. It marks an exciting milestone for the club and highlights the continued development of women’s rugby at Queen’s.

10th in Europe for Callum
Congratulations to elite athlete Callum Morgan, who delivered a strong performance in the men’s 5000m final at the European U23 Championships. Competing against some of the continent’s top emerging talent, Callum secured 10th place with a time of 13:53.18.
This marks a significant milestone in his development on the international stage, and we look forward to what’s next in his journey.

World University Games for three Queen's students
Queen’s University Belfast students Adam Faulkner, Ben Watson, and Joe Sheard have made history by becoming the first Irish table tennis players ever selected to compete at the World University Games.
The trio will represent Ireland at the 32nd edition of the Games, taking place in the Rhine-Ruhr region of Germanyfrom next Thursday. They are part of a 22-strong Irish delegation competing across six sports at one of the world’s largest multi-sport events.
Their selection marks a major milestone for Irish table tennis and a proud moment for Queen’s University.

Cormac McAnallen and Brian Conlon Award
Queen’s GAA, in partnership with Queen’s Sport and the AEP team, honoured three outstanding student-athletes at its end-of-year awards on 9 June. Mathew Muraghan and Brid McNally received the 2024 and 2025 Cormac McAnallen Medals for their leadership and dedication, with Brid becoming only the second female recipient. Joey Clarke was awarded the Brian Conlon GAA Academy Scholarship, recognising his talent and leadership.

2025 Blues Awards
On 5 June, Queen’s University celebrated a proud tradition of sporting excellence at the 2025 Blues Awards, honouring student-athletes, coaches, and volunteers for their dedication, performance, and impact across more than 20 different sports. The event showcased the strength and spirit of the university’s sporting community, highlighting achievements both on and off the field.

Bronze for Konan
Konan Pazzaia, alongside Fintan McCarthy, claimed a bronze medal in the men’s double sculls (M2x) at the 2025 European Rowing Championships held in Plovdiv, Bulgaria. After finishing second in their semi-final to secure a spot in the A-final, the duo delivered a strong performance to finish third overall, just behind the gold-winning crew from Poland.

Representing Ireland in Malaysia
The Irish Men’s and Women’s Indoor Hockey squads recently completed a six-game invitational series in Malaysia, preparing for the 2026 EuroHockey Indoor Championships. Among those representing Ireland were four Queen’s University students: current players Jenna McCarlie and Katie Kimber, alongside alumni Scott McCabe and Laura Graham. The Women’s team enjoyed a flawless campaign, securing victory in all six matches.

Bronze for Darragh
Bursary student Darragh Love clinched the title at the British Senior Wrestling Championship, making a seamless transition to the senior level—while still eligible for U23—and bringing the 2025 Senior British Champion title to Fermanagh.

2025 Future Stars
On 15 April 2025, Queen’s University celebrated its annual Future Stars Awards, sponsored by McKeever Sports, recognising 148 talented Year 11 and 12 student-athletes across five priority sports. The gala at Whitla Hall highlighted the University’s Academy Programmes, supporting dual careers in sport and academia, and featured nearly 1,000 young athletes identified through partnerships with local sports bodies.

World Championship Qualified
Queen’s Elite athlete Rachel McCann played a vital role in the Irish women’s 4x400m relay team securing World Championship qualification at the World Relays in Guangzhou on May 11, after a strong performance in their final race.
