Callum finished in 13:23 for 5000m, the third-fastest time ever by an Irish U23 athlete. A significant milestone on the international stage and a testament to the work going in behind the scenes. -
Silver medal at Senior National Championships
A huge congratulations to our EAP athlete Rachel McCann (North Down) on winning the silver medal in the 400m at the Irish National Senior Athletics Championships. Rachel repeated her impressive silver medal performance from last year, this time clocking a new outdoor personal best of 53.19 seconds in a competitive race won by Sophie Becker. An outstanding achievement – well done, Rachel!

Nine QUBRFC players named in Ulster Senior Squad for 2025/26
Queen’s University Belfast RFC is proud to celebrate the selection of nine players to the Ulster Rugby Senior Women’s Squad for the 2025/26 season. This is a significant achievement for the club and a reflection of the strength and depth of the women’s rugby programme at Queen’s.
The squad includes six current students: Ruby Starrett, Maebh Clenaghan, Emily Whittle, Lauren Darley, Ciara Fitzsimons, and Sarah Roberts. In addition, three QUBRFC graduates — Rachel McIlroy, Ellen Patterson, and Bronach Cassidy — have also earned their places in the squad.
This recognition is a testament to the hard work and dedication of the players, coaches, and the wider support team at QUBRFC. It marks an exciting milestone for the club and highlights the continued development of women’s rugby at Queen’s.

10th in Europe for Callum
Congratulations to elite athlete Callum Morgan, who delivered a strong performance in the men’s 5000m final at the European U23 Championships. Competing against some of the continent’s top emerging talent, Callum secured 10th place with a time of 13:53.18.
This marks a significant milestone in his development on the international stage, and we look forward to what’s next in his journey.

World University Games for three Queen's students
Queen’s University Belfast students Adam Faulkner, Ben Watson, and Joe Sheard have made history by becoming the first Irish table tennis players ever selected to compete at the World University Games.
The trio will represent Ireland at the 32nd edition of the Games, taking place in the Rhine-Ruhr region of Germanyfrom next Thursday. They are part of a 22-strong Irish delegation competing across six sports at one of the world’s largest multi-sport events.
Their selection marks a major milestone for Irish table tennis and a proud moment for Queen’s University.

Cormac McAnallen and Brian Conlon Award
Queen’s GAA, in partnership with Queen’s Sport and the AEP team, honoured three outstanding student-athletes at its end-of-year awards on 9 June. Mathew Muraghan and Brid McNally received the 2024 and 2025 Cormac McAnallen Medals for their leadership and dedication, with Brid becoming only the second female recipient. Joey Clarke was awarded the Brian Conlon GAA Academy Scholarship, recognising his talent and leadership.

2025 Blues Awards
On 5 June, Queen’s University celebrated a proud tradition of sporting excellence at the 2025 Blues Awards, honouring student-athletes, coaches, and volunteers for their dedication, performance, and impact across more than 20 different sports. The event showcased the strength and spirit of the university’s sporting community, highlighting achievements both on and off the field.

Bronze for Konan
Konan Pazzaia, alongside Fintan McCarthy, claimed a bronze medal in the men’s double sculls (M2x) at the 2025 European Rowing Championships held in Plovdiv, Bulgaria. After finishing second in their semi-final to secure a spot in the A-final, the duo delivered a strong performance to finish third overall, just behind the gold-winning crew from Poland.

Representing Ireland in Malaysia
The Irish Men’s and Women’s Indoor Hockey squads recently completed a six-game invitational series in Malaysia, preparing for the 2026 EuroHockey Indoor Championships. Among those representing Ireland were four Queen’s University students: current players Jenna McCarlie and Katie Kimber, alongside alumni Scott McCabe and Laura Graham. The Women’s team enjoyed a flawless campaign, securing victory in all six matches.

Bronze for Darragh
Bursary student Darragh Love clinched the title at the British Senior Wrestling Championship, making a seamless transition to the senior level—while still eligible for U23—and bringing the 2025 Senior British Champion title to Fermanagh.

2025 Future Stars
On 15 April 2025, Queen’s University celebrated its annual Future Stars Awards, sponsored by McKeever Sports, recognising 148 talented Year 11 and 12 student-athletes across five priority sports. The gala at Whitla Hall highlighted the University’s Academy Programmes, supporting dual careers in sport and academia, and featured nearly 1,000 young athletes identified through partnerships with local sports bodies.

World Championship Qualified
Queen’s Elite athlete Rachel McCann played a vital role in the Irish women’s 4x400m relay team securing World Championship qualification at the World Relays in Guangzhou on May 11, after a strong performance in their final race.
