QUEEN’S SPORT OFFERS ATHLETIC BURSARIES FOR STUDENTS COMPETING OUTSIDE OF OUR FIVE ACADEMY SPORTS

Awardees on this scheme compete largely in individual sports, but we consider applications from outstanding individuals competing in team sports for which we do not have an Academy.

As with our Academy scholarships, three levels of award are available, valued at the following amounts:

Tier 1 £1500
Tier 2 £750
Tier 3 £300

Tier 4 - Support services

In addition to the scholarship, which is awarded in April of the academic year, Bursary scholars will receive mentoring from our expert Performance Coaches, bi-annual review meetings with the Performance Sport Manager, access to PEC facilities and items from our bespoke clothing range. One of the main conditions of the scholarship is that you should endeavour to represent the University in relevant competitions during the academic year, such as the Irish and/or British Universities Championships.

Application open on January 30th for the Academic Year 2024/25.

In 2022/23 we supported 18 athletes through this scheme, across a range of sports including athletics, sailing, surfing, and cycling. The Sports Bursary is an ideal pathway for athletes competing at national level who aspire to progress to international competition in the near future. Run in tandem with our Elite Athlete Programme, awardees enjoy many of the same benefits as our top-level scheme, with bespoke development activities and access to expert coaching available. Consulting with your own coach, Queen’s Sport will work with you to help you progress tot he next stage of your sporting career. Athletes may receive an award in consecutive years and may also progress to the Elite Athlete Programme if competitive results demonstrate significant improvements in performance.
